SOOOOO how are terminal illnesses/injuries/post-death things handled? If my character is terminally ill, can that be cured upon arrival or not? And the same question regarding injuries, whether fatal or not since might as well while I'm here.

And I'd say to do what is most fun for you! If you'd rather have your character healed upon arrival, it's easy to say that some magical glitch (because there are so many of those) cured him when he got here. If you'd rather play with him still being sick, that's cool and there are definitely clinics and other places in the city where he can get treatment!

And if you'd like to play with him stumbling out of his dorm room still bleeding because oops injuries, that's. . . that's fine too. . . you'll leave a big red stain in the carpet for the staff to clean up though :(

I think the only for-certain thing is that any fatal injuries would be reduced to something non-fatal upon arrival, if you chose to keep them!

How powerful is medical treatment in Glymmer? For terminal illnesses and the like, can we wave our hands and be like "magic pills" if we decide to keep that around?

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO BE AS ~*DRAMATIQUE*~ AS YOU WISH

It's pretty handwavey in order to allow for MAXIMUM PLAYER FUN, but you can consider medical treatment in Glymmer to be exactly the same as medical treatment of the real world when it comes to sickness! Treatment may be different than it is in the real world due to the urban fantasy nature of Glymmer, so yes, you're free to assume Hizumi got some MAGIC PILLS from a local clinic to help control his condition. But it's about as effective as real-world medication, so!

For injuries (you didn't ask, but I'll clarify), medical treatment is a biiiit more advanced in that there are magical spells that allow for the speeding up of healing of injuries. However, to avoid characters getting healed by NPCs when we have a perfectly viable PC way of getting healed (THE MUSCLE), it's pretty much impossible to find any doctors who practice magical healing because it's such a specialized and difficult branch of magic for Glymmer natives.

HOW DO CASTMATES REMEMBERING EACH OTHERS' NAMES WORK

Do characters remember their cast's names till they show up and then it's [redacted]? Does any character's acceptance of the contract with Topaz just blank out their name for everyone who knows them? If characters drop, are their names suddenly in accessible memory again?

Characters can remember castmate names so long as they aren't in the game! So if John and Suzie are castmates, and Suzie never appears in the game, John can still call her Suzie when talking about her to other characters. But if someone apps Suzie into the game, then John will forget that her name is Suzie and will have to call her by whatever code name (READ: AMNESIA NAME) she picks! And if she drops, he'll be able to remember that her name is Suzie again.

Shit, I've got another question already! Is the superhero/phantom thief thing in effect where as long as you're wearing your mask, no one can recognize your ~secret identity~? I've been assuming it is, but I don't see it explicitly down anywhere.

Yes! I didn’t put it explicitly anywhere because I forgot, but it’s definitely in effect and any secret identities will be preserved when characters are wearing their masks.

Unless a player wants their character to be recognized for the rule of funny, that’s also totally legit. Go with your heart!

Two questions!

1. Do tabletop RPG characters (D&D, World of Darkness, whatever) count as OCs for the purposes of apps?

2. Apologies if I missed it somewhere, but what about inventory like magic items or lightsabers or whatever? Do those get left at home?

1. I don't know too terribly much about D&D, BUT because of the cast cap I'd say their campaigns would count as their canons, rather than them being lumped into the general OC category! So kind of like fandom OCs, in a sense. Either way, they're 100% appable!

2. Nope, you didn't miss it, it's definitely something I didn't include by way of having a forgetful brain. Characters can keep all items they'd have on them at the time they accept the offer to come to Glymmer, EXCEPT for weapons. So lightsabers would be a no, but things like special jewelry or a hair comb or a stuffed animal would be fine!

Adding on to this, what about animals? E.g. A magician has doves hidden up his sleeves, or hell, a Pokemon trainer and their Pokeballs /cough

Since I'm here, I assume pets in general don't translate over, yes?

You're correct! Pets in general (such as doves) don't translate over. However, a Pokemon trainer would be able to bring the Pokemon they have on them at the time provided they're inside their pokeballs, since pokeballs are generally considered items in the transportation process!

hi al!! i have a question

i know there's no power nerfing, but i just want to double check real quick about something. i'm assuming it'll be no big, but yeah!

my character's personality is influenced by an outside force, think of it as something like a god. the more she does things the god likes, the more the god influences/possesses her to behave a certain way. she's not AWARE of the influence the god is having on her personality (making her more violent/angry/etc) and she's also not aware of her personality WITHOUT the god influencing her. she might be a super nice, kind person! but she's never had a chance to find out without this guiding force since it's been kinda lowkey possessing her since she was a kid

if she's not in her canon, theoretically this thing that possesses her doesn't exist here! but also that would be boring......... so is it cool if it's still kind of possessing her here? i'm welcome to play with it a little, make the connection weaker or something but let me know what's kosher! if it's something more ideal to play out in the game, we can talk more once things start up too

OH MAN.

Yeah, the god would obviously not arrive to Glymmer with her, BUT in order to maximize your fun in playing her, I think it'd be fair to say that she arrives with a bit of ~divine touch~ from said god, if that makes sense? I'm not canon familiar, but she can maintain a piece of that possession/influence and it can continue to influence her like it does in canon! She'd just ping as, you know, slightly divine to people who can sense those sorts of things.

If you'd like to make it weaker because of the distance between her and the god possessing her, you're absolutely welcome to! But you wouldn't have to. DO WHAT IS MOST FUN FOR SQUEE, that is my motto!

If that doesn't fully answer your question just lmk!

Question when it comes to names. My character's name is Sync, but he's also known as the Tempest as a title that's not really used in canon much but is still a thing and the closest thing to a last name he has. Would he lose only his name or the title as well?

EDIT: And another one, Sync spends a better part of early canon actually...wearing a mask. Can I re-use that mask for his thief outfit for the amusement of annoying the hell out of him reasons?

He'll lose the entire name, including the title! And although you didn't ask, just to be a little more clear about how the name loss works, characters will lose anything they were called in canon. This includes titles or nicknames or other code names. Blank slate when it comes to names!

And you're 100% free to use his canon mask in his thief outfit, if you wish! The guild higher ups probably gave it to him because they thought it was funny. They're like that.

A couple of quick questions for you!

1. Is canon updating an option? If so, how does that work?

2. What if a character changes their mind on their wish while they're in Glymmer (either due to character development or canon updating)? Would they be allowed to change their wish at some point?

1. Yes, it is an option! However, how characters canon update may or may not be related to some plot information mutter mumble mutter, so if anyone wishes to canon update they should email the mod account at ragamuffinmods@gmail.com, and I'll walk them through the process 8Db

2. Yup, characters are 100% free to change their mind on wishes while they're in Glymmer! They won't get paid until their work is done after all, so the wish that brought them to the world doesn't have to be the same as the wish they ultimately request from the guild.

App question! When you say you want threads within the last year, is that within X year itself (so 2019 in this case) or within the last 365 days?

Within the last 365 days! So threads done up to April of 2018 would count.

So!!!!! I play a character that’s not going to agree to come without this one canonmate, who a friend is also planning on bringing. Is there a way they could have been asked together or could have a condition put on the contract “agrees to come if [canonmate] also agrees”?

Since you both plan on apping that, should be fine! However, the Ragamuffins won't usually make conditions like this (since we OOCly can't always guarantee the canonmate of someone's character will app). And they will also add that if one of them is sent home (i.e. one drops) that doesn't necessarily mean the other will be sent home with them (if the other person chooses to continue playing).

Hey there, is it safe to assume that people who app in later will miss that welcome party from a few days back? Seems like an obvious question I know, but I am unclear what the time ratio is IC vs OOC.

MY BAD, I didn't make the time ratio for the game clear! It's 1:1, IC:OOC, so yes you can assume new arrivals who app in alter miss the welcome party and arrive a few days later!

However, if you'd like to tag into it, since we're still so close to the game opening, you're welcome to do so and backdate it if you wish! This won't be an available option for people who app in too far past the welcome party, but right now it hasn't even been an IC week since characters arrived so WAGGLES HANDS VAGUELY.

Apologies for that vagueness and I hope that answers your question! BASICALLY, feel free to intro in the party post OR make your new intro and assume Kaito arrived a few days later. Whichever is most comfy for you!

Probably a dumb question but do characters arrive in the clothes they were wearing at the time they agreed to their contracts? I.e. The thief outfit and the peasant clothes in the laundry aren't their only options?

No such thing as a dumb question! And yes, they do arrive in the clothes they're wearing when they accepted the deal. So they get the thief outfit + the rags provided in the dorm + whatever they had on them at the time they were brought here!
