✬ Glymmer is an invite-only game for the time being! For more information on the invite system, please visit the invite page.
✬ Apps are always open! However, I as the mod reserve the right to close them again if we get close to the game cap, or for any other reason. If I do that, I will make sure to clearly announce it in advance so everyone can plan for it.
✬ Apps will always be processed on the Saturday after they're submitted. If I for some reason cannot process apps that Saturday, then I will announce this on Plurk and process them on Sunday instead. Regardless, they should be processed every weekend!
✬ Currently, there is a game cap of 50 characters and a cast cap of 5 characters. Franchises (such as separate Final Fantasies and Personas and Marvel) will be considered separately for now. These caps are flexible and I will revisit them later on.
✬ We are currently accepting apps for fandom characters, OCs, and AUs of fandom characters (both canon and player made). We are not accepting apps for PG/CRAUs at this time.
✬ Doubles of characters are allowed so long as one version is appreciably different than the other version. We allow up to two versions of the same character to exist in the game at once. For example, Peter Parker from MCU and the Peter Parker from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse would both be appable. So would canon Sora from Kingdom Hearts, and a player made AU where Sora never got the keyblade. The mods will be the one to determine whether the two version of a character are different enough to be appable. If you're not sure, you can ask!
✬ In a case where someone wishes to app a double into the game, they may do so only with permission from the player already in the game. If that player says no, please respect this! Doubles are so much fun (speaking from experience) but are only fun if all players are on board with it.
✬ Apps for historical characters will only be allowed if they are from a highly fictionalized take on history. For example, Abraham Lincoln from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is appable, but Alexander Hamilton from the musical Hamilton is not.
✬ Players may play up to two characters in the game, but may only app one per app period.
✬ While we have no age limits on what characters can be applied to Glymmer, please make sure that they character you're applying for is suitable for the setting and can be self-sufficient! If the mods have questions about character suitability, we may take you aside to ask before accepting them. If we find that they aren't suitable for the setting, we will decline the application.
✬ You do not have to reserve a character to app them.
✬ Please fill out the following form and then post it to this page to apply to the game:

Character Info
Character Name: Kei
Canon: OC
Age: late 70s
Canon Point: late 70s, modern contemporary
Character Info: Kei is the son of a fisherman and his shapeshifting fox-wife, half-human half-fox and still figuring out how to balance the sides.
Foxes can be powerful creatures, but that inheritance came incomplete for Kei. His magical ability is almost null, with almost all his power gone into an unstable but skillful shapeshifting ability. He can change his face to look like anyone, and has a half-dozen faces of his own that he rotates between: one for work, one for flirting, his mom's favorite face, his own favorite face... With the downside that those features can shift by themselves if he's not paying attention— his hair especially likes to start growing when he's overstressed.
Questions on his abilities, worries about his aging, and other issues haven't had easy answers from the foxes. They've taught what they can, but half-human children have always been rare, always something that happened in other families' tales. Human fiction has plenty of Narnias and Wonderlands and Rip Van Winkles, but they're no guidebook either. There's no happy ending to moving before people notice the holes in your disguise or coming back from a weekend family trip to find out ten years have passed and your rent is beyond overdue.
But after 70 or so years, Kei has mostly figured out how to get on. He's all for 21st century convenience and pop culture, and very happy with his modern apartment. Mom Keiko might lovechasing squirrels in the wilds, but he'll take his heated bathtub, wifi, Ikea furniture, and microwave dinners. There's not much to be said for his human social life and even less to be said for his romantic life (dates don't like waking up next to a face they've never seen before... he assumes), but he has his comforts, he's always happy to have his mom visit him in the city, and he's finally settled down managing a very nice hotel— The Cat & Bell, itself a front catering to a growing community of younger and more modern spirits as they try to figure this weird world out themselves.
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief? Kei might not have the big motives or the ego for being a truly attention-grabbing phantom thief, but he will 100% absolutely sign-me-up into the FUN of it. Stylish disguises? Daring feats of deception and cunning? A whole team with his same illusions?? His foxy heart will be completely charmed.
The secret identity aspect is also appealing, as he's always sorted his faces by moods or use, such as one appearance being used only for professional business or another when he's trying to turn up the charm for attention. It's a steady habit, and a way of making sure he doesn't slip up and end up with someone realizing his ability. In Glymmer, this may shake out to building up a new set of identities— a vain and flashy thief, a back-row healer, an illusionist fussing advice at newbie Grifters —or even a complete blend of all his impulses with faces changing on the hour. If everyone else is wearing disguises and secrets, will it really matter to keep his?
With a lifetime of constant moving and few humans or spirits that can bridge that divide, Kei's kept few friends at home, and those he's made he invests in. Regardless of how he ends up going about it, he'll do his utmost for the success of his new co-Phantom Thieves and their adventures.
Specialization: Muscle! impulse choice, and he will totally try to trick people for the heck of it into thinking he's a grifter or thief instead.
Starter thief outfit: a fancy hoodie, a matching veil-style mask. black leggings, black boots. will absolutely illusion himself a fox tail every time to complete the look.
Powers: Kei's main power is basically the Grifter's Master of Disguise: he can change almost any aspect of his appearance (as long as it's still roughly human shaped) through a combination of illusion and physical shapeshifting. His control is not always the most stable, and he has 5-6 faces that he cycles through instead of any default real face. Has some general foxiness like running and jumping extra well, or weighing only 30 lbs sometimes. Can talk to foxes, crows, raccoons, and other clever pest animals. Gets a power boost when the atmosphere is spooky or unsettling, like in weird heavy fog or long empty hallways. Has some influence on such settings like unconsciously making shapes in the mist, or snapping and a light turns off suddenly. Very tricky to kill, and it's BAD LUCK for a human unless 1) their dog did it or 2) he was caught in a trick/caught stealing.
