✬ Glymmer is an invite-only game for the time being! For more information on the invite system, please visit the invite page.
✬ Apps are always open! However, I as the mod reserve the right to close them again if we get close to the game cap, or for any other reason. If I do that, I will make sure to clearly announce it in advance so everyone can plan for it.
✬ Apps will always be processed on the Saturday after they're submitted. If I for some reason cannot process apps that Saturday, then I will announce this on Plurk and process them on Sunday instead. Regardless, they should be processed every weekend!
✬ Currently, there is a game cap of 50 characters and a cast cap of 5 characters. Franchises (such as separate Final Fantasies and Personas and Marvel) will be considered separately for now. These caps are flexible and I will revisit them later on.
✬ We are currently accepting apps for fandom characters, OCs, and AUs of fandom characters (both canon and player made). We are not accepting apps for PG/CRAUs at this time.
✬ Doubles of characters are allowed so long as one version is appreciably different than the other version. We allow up to two versions of the same character to exist in the game at once. For example, Peter Parker from MCU and the Peter Parker from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse would both be appable. So would canon Sora from Kingdom Hearts, and a player made AU where Sora never got the keyblade. The mods will be the one to determine whether the two version of a character are different enough to be appable. If you're not sure, you can ask!
✬ In a case where someone wishes to app a double into the game, they may do so only with permission from the player already in the game. If that player says no, please respect this! Doubles are so much fun (speaking from experience) but are only fun if all players are on board with it.
✬ Apps for historical characters will only be allowed if they are from a highly fictionalized take on history. For example, Abraham Lincoln from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is appable, but Alexander Hamilton from the musical Hamilton is not.
✬ Players may play up to two characters in the game, but may only app one per app period.
✬ While we have no age limits on what characters can be applied to Glymmer, please make sure that they character you're applying for is suitable for the setting and can be self-sufficient! If the mods have questions about character suitability, we may take you aside to ask before accepting them. If we find that they aren't suitable for the setting, we will decline the application.
✬ You do not have to reserve a character to app them.
✬ Please fill out the following form and then post it to this page to apply to the game:

Character Info: Bam!
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?
Quite frankly, Minato is going to be an absolutely shoddy phantom thief. He's the sort of person who, while he cares greatly about other people, doesn't have much in the way of enthusiasm or motivation when it comes to himself. Even for a wish, he's not likely to work all too hard to be a decent thief, not when so much of that depends on him being at least a little selfish.
Because honestly, he just does not know how to do that. Minato's selfless to the extreme. Even the thought of doing something that inconveniences someone else for his own sake will never really seem right to him. He'll only do thief-y things if it's for someone else's sake, which is an oxymoron to the extreme (especially since he is not near dashing enough to be a Robin Hood).
He can't even very easily go for said robin hood approach--because Minato's very much a non-judging person, which means that even stealing from really crummy people will feel wrong to him. They have the chance to become better people, don't they? He really does hold onto that. So how is he supposed to steal from anyone when he doesn't want to cause them any troubles or inconveniences? It's a mystery, really.
He's kind of lazy, extremely laid-back, and very, very chill. Things that are concerning to other people never even cross his mind as something to worry about. Wanted posters? Eh, they're there. The police, coming for him? It'll probably work out okay. He...doesn't have much in the way of strong feelings about most everything, sans his friends and the well-being of other people in general.
There is one aspect in which he might be a decent thief, at least; he's self-sacrificial to the extreme, which means he'll be more than willing to throw himself into the path of danger to help his fellow thieves. So that's something, right? Better than nothing, at least.
(But no, really, he's going to be a mess.)
Specialization: Grifter!
Starter thief outfit: Outfit and mask from here! I may revisit this later tbh, BUT FOR NOW!!
Powers: Minato's a Persona protag, and with that comes the ability to summon all sorts of Personas. In Glymmer, he will naturally be restricted to the Personas he has on him, which can be found here. They can be restricted or pared down however's necessary! However, I'll be automatically assuming that summoning his Personas too many times will leave him exhausted--using them requires SP, and he only has a finite amount of that, after all!
He otherwise is competent in a variety of weapons--swords, gauntlets, spears, bows and arrows--but competent only in the sense that he kind of picked them up and did his best with them; he doesn't have any sort of formal training, or a particularly impressive technique.
While his Personas make him pretty tough compared to normal people, he is otherwise a very normal teenage boy; in comparison to trained fighters, he'll be at a very large disadvantage.
Samples: Bam and some extra for funsies.

Character Info
Character Name: Wei Wuxian
Canon: Mo Dao Zu Shi (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation)
Age: 24ish, probably (he’s somewhere between 20 and 26, canon timelines are something else)
Canon Point: end of chapter 19, or roughly the end of season 1 of the animation
Character Info: I already wrote a history page that’s hopefully less confusing to read than the canon wiki
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?
Wei Wuxian would be an excellent phantom thief. Not a perfect one, but he possesses enough of the standard characteristics that one would be hard-pressed to call him unsuited for the job. He’s an impulsive troublemaker who enjoys fondly annoying people, playing pranks, and creating mischief. Although he can be annoying to no end, he isn’t intentionally cruel, and he has a habit of shoving others out of harm’s way because he thinks he can take the hit instead. He’s not the best at staying alive on his own and it is largely through the contributions of the people who care about him that he manages it. Which is also a little phantom thief-esque.
He’s lacking in manners, courteousness, and is plenty willing to use physical force if needed, which may set him apart from some other phantom thieves. But he does have charm...of a sort. He’s the type who people tend to either love or hate. He does things mostly because he feels like it, with little regard for others; he has no desire for wealth but, for instance, if he wanted some fruit, he wouldn’t hesitate to steal some from someone else’s garden. His death did temper his impulsiveness and he’s more willing to step back and assess a situation before making a move, especially if his friends are involved. It never stops him from getting into trouble though. He means well, and his outgoing and cheerful disposition makes it easy for him to make friends when he isn’t making enemies. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a positive person; it’s hard to keep him down for long, and he ends up smiling and taking most situations in stride. Even being reborn doesn’t prompt him to do anything except stir up trouble and run around the countryside avoiding old enemies for a week. Although he’s plenty capable as a cultivator, knowledgeable and skilled thanks to his upbringing, he prioritizes having fun and not taking himself too seriously no matter the situation.
Wei Wuxian’s greatest weakness, which would really only add to being a standout phantom thief, is his hubris. He thinks he’s the smartest man in the room and isn’t afraid to have anyone else know it. He chafes at rules and laws that he sees as too restrictive and won’t accept ideas just because they’re deemed conventional wisdom by everyone else. His overconfidence is what prevents him from accepting the warnings of his friends about his bad life choices, and ultimately what causes his (first) death. His arrogance isn’t completely without merit though: his wealth of knowledge and quick thinking does often help to save the lives of others. On its own, being a thief requires some level of arrogance; you have to have a big enough head to think that you can steal something and not get caught. Being a phantom thief requires that confidence on top of the showboating!
He’s gonna do great, really.
Specialization: Thief! Honestly, this is mostly because he is of the mind that this would be the most useful when it comes to completing missions and thus getting his wish.
Starter thief outfit: The outfit and mask!
Powers: He has some typical cultivator abilities:
-He has the ability to see, sense, and communicate with the dead
-Related, he has the power to use resentful or demonic energy to control undead beings and spirits. He communicates with them either directly through speech, sounds like whistling, or via his flute.
-He’s pretty good at playing the flute as a result. Actually, he’s skilled in the “six arts” of ancient China: poetry, music, archery, calligraphy (and art), mathematics, and equestrianism.
-He can do some basic cultivation techniques such as: making lifelike (paper) puppets that follow his orders, transferring his soul to other objects, and creating written talismans.
In addition to his cultivator skills, he’s also still decent at using a sword and has a ridiculously high tolerance for alcohol and spicy foods. It should be considered a skill to be as bad at cooking as he is, too.

Characters Currently in Game: n/a
Invite: IT'S YOU
Character Info
Character Name: Declan O'Carrol
Canon: The Demon Accords
Age: 19
Canon Point: The beginning of God Hammer
Character Info: Series is too small for a wiki so here you go!
Declan grew up in a small town in Vermont, keeping his head down and hiding his powers under the tutelage of his aunt and her partner. When he decided to help out a girl on the run from a secret society embedded in the US government, that all came to an end. In the ensuing chaos, he ended up earning the gratitude of reincarnated fallen angel Chris Gordon, who saw his potential immediately and arranged for him to enter a college program specifically for young supernaturals. A year of college hijinks later, Declan ended up with the sentient grimoire of the most infamous witch in history living in his brain, a bunch of new allies and friends, and an internship at a vampire-run corporation dedicated to protecting the world from demons.
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief? Declan would be pretty good at the thief part, but less good at the phantom part. He's had a lot of tactical training, both informally as part of a competitive witch-training game he helped invent and directly by some of the most dangerous people in the world; he can size up a situation, come up with tactics on the fly and use his powers in creative ways to get past obstacles and opponents. He's pretty pragmatic and used to keeping his head down, and he's clearheaded in a crisis; he's also very willing to step into danger to protect his friends, and he's a nice guy who tends to be pretty good at making those. Generally pretty damn good at the part of the job that involves stealing stuff!
On the other hand, his pragmatism and general humility work against the flamboyance that's part and parcel of the phantom thief's trade. He'd rather get something done quietly and efficiently than show off, at least at first, and he'll probably have a hard time adjusting to the brinksmanship and...well, showing off that tends to be involved. He's pretty strongly ethical, which will lead to him being picky about his targets and might make him balk at some missions. He also tends to buck authority if it comes down too heavily, and he's got a ferocious temper which he mostly represses but sometimes lets off the leash; if a theft goes wrong, it could go really wrong.
Specialization: Thief, since he can mostly replicate Muscle or Hacker himself and Grifter would creep him out a little.
Starter thief outfit: Outfit and mask!
Powers: Declan is a witch with major earth and fire affinities and a minor air affinity. He's got excellent general control over earth and fire, growing things and anything electrical (storms included); unlike most witches, he's extremely good with technology. He's also good at absorbing, redirecting and repurposing energy around him; most energy-based attacks will just charge him up. He's very creative with non-elemental spellcasting, and if his creativity fails him, the ancient grimoire living his head will probably helpfully give him some ideas. (Just, you know, possibly evil ideas.) Finally, he's tattooed himself with a series of glyphs that boost his strength, speed and stamina to low-superhuman levels while they're active. His magic doesn't work on water, the only affinity he doesn't have, directly, and if immersed in water with no chance to contact earth or drain heat, he won't be able to use magic at all. Without that, or if stripped of his powers, he's a pretty athletic teenager who's been well-trained in krav maga and can use a gun competently, but he's not any less squishy than a normal human.

Character Info
Character Name:
JormungandGeirCanon: original
Age: Mentally around 22, physically not much younger than the world.
Character Info:
In a setting based on Norse mythology, Geir’s “true” Name is Jormungand – the World-Serpent that starts the end of everything. His father Loki is optimistic that he’ll even take the Name of Nidhoggr, the monster that destroys all life directly. All the gods knew this, even if they didn’t fully appreciate Loki’s devious plans, but fate isn’t personal: as a result, Geir grew up among them as some combination of neglected, castoff child and fatted calf you know is destined for slaughter but can’t quite resist petting. He resented no one, learned very little of the world, got first tossed into an ocean and then buried under a hill as his father executed plans he never shared, and had no real life until he woke up a world-ending monster. That was supposed to be Geir’s existence.
Instead, Geir was woken up early by a bitter magic-user named Vern who thought the world should end now, thank you. Vern’s isolation and anger at life's injustices were warranted by his own past, but his promising attempt at Ragnarok was knocked askew when he discovered that the World-Serpent was an anxious monster puppy: fatalistic for sure, but also cheerful, curious, and genuinely interested in his summoner. Any attempt to linger and share more time before they destroyed everything would be a rejection of both Geir’s mythological role and Vern’s desire to see the world burn. They blinked and took a rain check on the apocalypse anyway. Some other things happened later – they hid from the gods and a bossy healer named Linnea and Geir’s cousin Freyja found them to ask for help foiling Loki’s plans, among other things – but the core of Vern and Geir’s story is that choice to stop together and take a deep breath.
Geir means “spear” and sure enough, Geir doesn’t see himself as a person so much as a tool. In fact, he’s a weird, maladapted bundle of complexes stuck together with duct tape. He grew up separated from his impassive mother and a constant disappointment to his father Loki. He enjoys the company of his extended family, but accepts that they’ll all try to kill him someday. He values tricks and can recognize manipulation, but he’s a bad liar. He doesn’t understand social rules and will ask you to talk about your fears or opinions about morality in the middle of a normal conversation. He’s ruthless and terrible, but if he thinks he’s accidentally hurt someone, he’ll straight up have a panic attack. He’s bright and intelligent and ready to experience life, but he knows he was born to die and take everything with him.
He loves his summoner, but he’s aware that by his very nature, he’s distracting Vern from his purpose, and he doesn’t have any intrinsic concept that saving the world – or himself – is a good thing. Any conclusions he comes to will have to be constructed on his own, with the help of anyone willing to help him.
Please help him. He tries.
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?
Al I hate you, I just spent an hour figuring out how to elegantly fit personality and history into exactly 500 words, I swear to god. GEIR IS A GREAT PHANTOM THIEF BECAUSE:
• the idea that the only fucking enormous dragon in the city is unrecognizable during heists due to a tiny mask is hilarious to me
• no social concept of morality means you don't care about doing crimes
• actually he's just not very sneaky in personality OR in how he's 35 feet tall so he's just, honestly very bad at crimes, he tries
• loves treasure so much that he sometimes gets distracted by treasure in the middle of crime doing
• sometimes also gets distracted from crime doing by philosophical discussions on the nature and limitations of power, e.g., the power to take people's stuff because you're a dragon
• if we're all going to die why shouldn't we sleep on a pile of gold????? honestly
• if anyone hurts Vern he will just destroy half the city
• as soon as he learns what certified Thief Banter(tm) is he's going to be 100% impossible to live with and someone will have to app Thor and kill him
• gonna adopt the entire guild and hoard them under his wings like a scaly chicken who just hatched an enormous nest of huge losers
• WHAT IF THE BATCAVE WAS ACTUALLY... THE DRAGON'S LAIR
• will argue about philosophy to the police also
• if he is bored, sometimes he will just bite through walls and leave
• giant free airbus for your rooftop chase needs
• his thought processes lead to some genuinely interesting explorations of what theft is, what counts as stealing, and how those things can be used in the context of broader dynamics. you can steal dignity. you can steal identity. you can steal love. if you change someone's mind, are you not stealing their past that led them there, or the future they could have had? can you reach out and touch that? is anything rarer than the subjective experiences of a single life? how do you weigh the value of a soul? how do you hold personhood in your hands?
• seriously. dinosaur in a teeny tiny lil mask. CLASSIC
i am very interested in playing Geir as a phantom thief and am happy to present this evidence of his experience, qualifications and aptitude for this role. please feel free to review his resume for further information or reach out to me directly for more details at any timeSpecialization: He's going to be a hacker due to misunderstanding it as hacking people apart at first because I think I'm funny. In reality, it will be so I don't have to worry about the logistics of him using CELLPHONES.
Starter thief outfit: I made someone draw this for me! The lights dim at his will and match the current moon. The harness is useful for RAPPELLING OFF OF.
Powers:
Geir is a god (a half-giant monster god, specifically) and tremendously strong magically, but what exactly that means is sort of ambiguous thus far. It's very hard to hurt him with force or magic. The mysterious venom in his teeth, called eitr, isn't fully understood, but is known to have incredible destructive properties and can melt or corrode most things that don't have plot armor. He also has intense magical powers of suggestion when he cares to use them, and can hypnotize prey (you) with his eyes or voice. He walks in Vern's dreams and may be able to go further afield into the dreams of others, but he hasn't really done this yet; he can also shapeshift, but he’s only really managed a human shape so far, and is a bit wary of doing it because he gets stuck sometimes
and I haven’t uploaded icons yet.I’m 100% here to be stupid and get some character dev for this ridiculous snake, not to godmode! I won’t really do anything with any of this without checking with people first ♥

Character Info
Character Name: Titus Ram
Canon: Sennen Meikyuu no Nana Ouji
Age: 19
Character Info: No wiki, so here's a summary: A legend exists of a thousand-year-old labyrinth castle, housing a legendary treasure and tales of how an ancient dynasty fell to treason there. Centuries later, a group of people are mysteriously gathered as candidates to succeed the throne of Emperor--but first, they must make their way out of the ancient trapped labyrinth, and not everyone may make it out in one piece.
Titus Ram was, at one point, a candidate to succeed the Emperor. Some people balked at the idea: a renowned criminal and head of a thieves' guild, ruling the country as Emperor? But an Emperor is more than just a figurehead: they're someone with connections, people skills, and the ability to challenge formidable opponents. So it was that Titus and six others were put through a gauntlet to determine who would rise to the top. While Titus didn't become the Emperor, he and the others became the Emperor's cabinet, and Titus went from notorious thief to Head of the Imperial Army overnight. It suits him, even though he's more used to hiding in alleyways and taking info from spies than barking orders at soldiers. Titus's desire to become Emperor stemmed from his background of growing up orphaned and poor on the streets, and he wanted to use the power of Emperor to make life better for the downtrodden and desolate. In his own words, becoming Emperor was "to protect the little guy" from people who would use them. Regardless of his position--thief, criminal, Emperor, or soldier--that goal is always in his mind.
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief? WELL FOR ONE, HE IS AN ACTUAL THIEF IN CANON. This doesn't mean he's perfect at his job; he makes mistakes like anyone else, and his hard-headedness can get in his own way. Titus is the type of person who can handle lock-picking, pickpocketing, heists, escape artist routines, etc.--but there's nothing more he loves than a good old-fashioned brawl, fists only. It's easy to poke at his pride and rile him up, and his demeanor doesn't exactly scream "subtle", but what he lacks in traditional thief qualities he makes up for with unshakeable loyalty and faith. He's the kind of guy who comes across as cocky and dangerous, but secretly has a heart of gold. Titus believes in the power of sharing hardships and important moments in one's life with the people you trust; he believes that the bonds between people who have gone through the same thing are powerful and unshakeable. He's decent when it comes to subterfuge and lying, but he's known more for his natural charisma and ability to draw people to him with that big dorky grin. As a thief in his own canon, he's pretty good, if flawed by his own pride and stubbornness--as a thief in Glymmer, being able to work well with others might give him a significant advantage.
Specialization: ... Thief...
Starter thief outfit: Every piece of clothing Titus wears must be showing some skin, it's the rules. Mask isn't included because I haven't found one that doesn't look ridiculous when worn over an eyepatch, but I'll let you know when I do.
Powers: Titus woefully has no supernatural powers to speak of, so nothing of that sort needs to be nerfed. He's just a very athletic, acrobatic guy who's good with a pair of daggers and a mean unarmed strike. He likes to climb on things and punch things, and sometimes stab things if he has to. /o/

Character Name: Van Grants
Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Age: 27
Canon Point: Before the start of the game! (Choosing this because any point during the game would be AS HIS PLANS FINALLY GET INTO MOTION and he'd have no time for thieving vacations!! And post-game would be him being depressed and dead.)
Character Info: https://aselia.fandom.com/wiki/Van_Grants
https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Van_Grants (linking to this one too cause the trivia has me losing my shit)
The basic gist is that Van Grants is one of those JRPG villains that is responsible for literally everything bad that ever happens because he's been a scheming mastermind for the past 7 years of his life. However, he is also one of those JRPG villains who was wronged by The Score, the overarching powerful prophecy that controls everything on Auldrant, so he views everything he's done as either a) absolutely necessary because it was the Only Way to overthrow the Score and The Ends Justify The Means, or b) not his fault as it was in the Score and would have happened whether he had done anything or not! or c) both!
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?
Van Grants is a man who prefers to go the route of charming potential targets (before horrifically stabbing them in the back), so while canonically speaking he doesn't go for 'stealing' as much as well...kidnapping and mass-murder, his charismatic charmer brand of Manipulative Villain would translate well to talking someone up while casually grabbing their wallet because he needed their family photo for a mission.
He also has a very "the ends justify the means" approach to well, life, so a life of thieving and crime is not one he'd have any moral qualms with. In fact, compared to his normal activities? It's probably refreshing to only be stealing someone's livelihood instead of their child. (...Though I will not write out the possibility of him interpreting a mission as a kidnapping one.) So as a thief, he has both the soft skills and mindset to play the part well.
Unfortunately he's also A Big Slow, Tanky type of character so stealth...will likely be his greatest weakness. Not that he is incapable of being sneaky -- he is EXTREMELY sneaky in canon after all -- but his sneakiness would be limited to how he twists his words and a situation to his favor instead of more straight-forward, physically sneaking around places. In a party, he's more likely to suggest that he be the one to knock on the door and keep their mark busy while someone else actually does the thieving.
Specialization: Grifter! This will be because Grifter is kind of...himself with some added illusions, but it would be his first go-to.
Starter thief outfit:
☆ A black filigree mask with Sapphire gems (for Some Weird Reason Huh)
☆ With a phantom of the opera-esque costume (as in, this literally is from a Phantom of the Opera costume exhibit
Powers: HE IS A JRPG FINAL BOSS, which means he has a sword and also some magic spells (FONIC ARTES to be precise!) but they're at the middle-point of JRPG character skill development, as he is largely a tank-type boss in that he Hits Hard And Has Lots Of HP. So he basically knows a middle-tier spell for fire, earth, dark and light elements; and he can also shoot a laser from his sword.
The major thing are his mystic artes but at this point he would only have access to Imperial Slaughter and I'm also cool with just not letting him walk around with a massive AOE damage ability. (It likely consumes a lot of fonons and who's to say that Glymmer has enough of those?)
ALSO, I AM FULLY AWARE THIS IS 200% TOO OVERPOWERED BUT I CANNOT RESIST MYSELF: Van Grants will be coming in with his FULL organ-playing power. I preemptively refuse all nerfs to this ability, you cannot stop me!!

Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief? Jacobi has been doing morally grey espionage work for most of his adult life and that includes stealing things, hacking things, breaking things, killing things (and people) and a whole lot of other stuff. He's essentially a spy! His team and him work for Goddard Futuristics, a very bad and no good tech company that owns a whole lot private military. He's part of the Intelligence Division and a Ballistics Specialist, so he's also very good at blowing things up. He's not a rob from the rich and give to the poor kind of person, he's a rob from anyone as long as his boss is paying him kind of person. His team is essentially the big guns, the people you send in to kill whoever needs to be killed and steal whatever needs to be stolen and make sure no one knows what's been done. So, he'd make a great Phantom Thief because that's just... his job. But geared towards something else, and a little more altruistic? He's going to be embarrassed if they're actually doing something good here, honestly.
He's also coming from the end of the show where while he's not entirely redeemed (he has absolutely no interest in being redeemed or being a good person), he's pretty firm about trying do his own thing and not follow along creepy mega corporations with shady goals that he's not aware of. Being a Phantom Thief means he'll be doing that solo and that's more in line with his current choices. Still, he'd much prefer to have a goal, given by someone else, a direction to aim his energy at but without that lead to follow, he's fine just figuring out how to be a thief here. What he wants though? His wish that he's working in Glymmer for? Is to return to the SI-5 with Kepler and Maxwell before everything went to shit so badly. He also knows that would require going back in time in some way and forgetting a whole lot of important things that made everything fall apart in the first place, but he wants to be back as a team with the two of them just bad enough that he'd still agree to work for Topaz just to see what happens.
Specialization: Thief because he totally won't use it for nefarious purposes at all. (He will.)
Starter thief outfit: This mask and jumpsuit kind of like Ripley's from Alien, but for a dude and with a patch that says "JACOBI" on the front. Because subtle. Also, the mask barks.
Powers: Jacobi is a super normal human dude! He doesn't even have proper military training despite being black ops. He knows how to fight and how to kill and how to take a beating because he's been doing really morally grey work with his team for years. His specialty is ballistics and creating things that break other things, essentially. He enjoys it, a lot, and is really really really really good at it. Definitely not OP or anything, just the solid muscle and experience of a guy who lives a really active lifestyle.
Oh, and he's absolutely pathologically terrified of ducks.

Character Info
Character Name: Kei
Canon: OC
Age: late 70s
Canon Point: late 70s, modern contemporary
Character Info: Kei is the son of a fisherman and his shapeshifting fox-wife, half-human half-fox and still figuring out how to balance the sides.
Foxes can be powerful creatures, but that inheritance came incomplete for Kei. His magical ability is almost null, with almost all his power gone into an unstable but skillful shapeshifting ability. He can change his face to look like anyone, and has a half-dozen faces of his own that he rotates between: one for work, one for flirting, his mom's favorite face, his own favorite face... With the downside that those features can shift by themselves if he's not paying attention— his hair especially likes to start growing when he's overstressed.
Questions on his abilities, worries about his aging, and other issues haven't had easy answers from the foxes. They've taught what they can, but half-human children have always been rare, always something that happened in other families' tales. Human fiction has plenty of Narnias and Wonderlands and Rip Van Winkles, but they're no guidebook either. There's no happy ending to moving before people notice the holes in your disguise or coming back from a weekend family trip to find out ten years have passed and your rent is beyond overdue.
But after 70 or so years, Kei has mostly figured out how to get on. He's all for 21st century convenience and pop culture, and very happy with his modern apartment. Mom Keiko might lovechasing squirrels in the wilds, but he'll take his heated bathtub, wifi, Ikea furniture, and microwave dinners. There's not much to be said for his human social life and even less to be said for his romantic life (dates don't like waking up next to a face they've never seen before... he assumes), but he has his comforts, he's always happy to have his mom visit him in the city, and he's finally settled down managing a very nice hotel— The Cat & Bell, itself a front catering to a growing community of younger and more modern spirits as they try to figure this weird world out themselves.
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief? Kei might not have the big motives or the ego for being a truly attention-grabbing phantom thief, but he will 100% absolutely sign-me-up into the FUN of it. Stylish disguises? Daring feats of deception and cunning? A whole team with his same illusions?? His foxy heart will be completely charmed.
The secret identity aspect is also appealing, as he's always sorted his faces by moods or use, such as one appearance being used only for professional business or another when he's trying to turn up the charm for attention. It's a steady habit, and a way of making sure he doesn't slip up and end up with someone realizing his ability. In Glymmer, this may shake out to building up a new set of identities— a vain and flashy thief, a back-row healer, an illusionist fussing advice at newbie Grifters —or even a complete blend of all his impulses with faces changing on the hour. If everyone else is wearing disguises and secrets, will it really matter to keep his?
With a lifetime of constant moving and few humans or spirits that can bridge that divide, Kei's kept few friends at home, and those he's made he invests in. Regardless of how he ends up going about it, he'll do his utmost for the success of his new co-Phantom Thieves and their adventures.
Specialization: Muscle! impulse choice, and he will totally try to trick people for the heck of it into thinking he's a grifter or thief instead.
Starter thief outfit: a fancy hoodie, a matching veil-style mask. black leggings, black boots. will absolutely illusion himself a fox tail every time to complete the look.
Powers: Kei's main power is basically the Grifter's Master of Disguise: he can change almost any aspect of his appearance (as long as it's still roughly human shaped) through a combination of illusion and physical shapeshifting. His control is not always the most stable, and he has 5-6 faces that he cycles through instead of any default real face. Has some general foxiness like running and jumping extra well, or weighing only 30 lbs sometimes. Can talk to foxes, crows, raccoons, and other clever pest animals. Gets a power boost when the atmosphere is spooky or unsettling, like in weird heavy fog or long empty hallways. Has some influence on such settings like unconsciously making shapes in the mist, or snapping and a light turns off suddenly. Very tricky to kill, and it's BAD LUCK for a human unless 1) their dog did it or 2) he was caught in a trick/caught stealing.

Character Name: Sync the Tempest
Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Age: Physically and mentally 15, true age is 3.
Canon Point: After his actual death
Character Info: Wiki page. Timeline is mildly inaccurate for early history, but events are correct.
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief? Sync would make a rather outstanding thief if he puts his mind to it. A tactical genius, he tends to be the one who makes plans for all the God-Generals, and when a situation comes up, he's the one to work out how to handle it, thinking through all the variables and finding the best solution. He's incredibly smart for someone so young, and he's long earned the title of general.
The only thing that can get in the way for him is that his personality isn't great for thieving. Sync lived a life where he thought himself outside of the world, not a part of it, and nothing he had was truly his own. As such, he doesn't really understand much of what people find precious to them. Items with monetary value, that's easy enough, but things that aren't necessarily expensive but worth stealing aren't things he really understands. How can something as simple as a doll or old photograph be considered treasures? He's also rather uncaring about other people's opinions or wants, so in general doing things only happens when he actually wants to. Thankfully the whole wish thing will actually somewhat help him get moving in the setting.
He's also not easy to work with sometimes. Sync is, to put it bluntly, a bit of a shitchild. He's not above taunting and mocking his own allies if they're not being smart about things, and for people with short tempers...well. Yeah. Kind of a problem. His own temper is also kind of short, and there is a very short list of people that will not manage to get him to completely explode on them if his buttons are pushed in the wrong way. Said people on list are there purely because they'd kick his ass in a fight and he knows it.
Specialization: Thief
Starter thief outfit: His mask will be the same mask he wears in early canon
because I'm mean like that. His outfit will be similar-ish to that outfit as well, just without some of the accessories such as the long orange ribbons and the odd yellow and red seal like objects. They're not super helpful for being sneaky after all, since they stand out in the dark!Powers: Sync is the penultimate boss of Tales of the Abyss, and is best described as "stupidly strong and fast". He's the 'fragile speedster' of the God-Generals, as he can absolutely wreck someone in a very short amount of time, but his defences are lower than the other God-Generals. At full sprint, it can be hard to see him when he's running and sometimes he can leave after-images of himself, but he can't maintain that speed for long periods of time. He's also the only character in canon who doesn't need a weapon to fight, he fights purely with punches and kicks.
He has a good range of fonic artes, which are basically magic spells, in several elements. He's also something of a GODDAMN CHEATER because he's the only person in canon able to cast an arte that has no cast timer. Thankfully it's only one specific arte, BUT STILL. He's also got two Mystic Artes which are basically "You can use these only so often" because they're overpowered nukes, which he also kind of cheats with since he can use them whenever he damn well wants. But I play these as something that exhausts him to use too much. For more arte info, I have a write up on his artes here.
Not a power but of note: Sync is a replica. While he looks human and basically reacts as a human would when it comes to injury, illness, etc, he's actually made entirely of sound fonons mimicking the human form. Any part of him that isn't attached to him will dissolve into fonons after awhile (blood drops, lost hair) and his entire body will disappear if he dies.

Character Name: Vern
Canon: OC
Age: 21
Character Info: Vern comes from a fantasy setting based on Norse mythology, where Yggdrasil and its attendant gods and monsters exist, and humans can enter Valhalla if they attain heroic status in war. The war machine is thus constant and unrelenting, as kings and generals seek to make names for themselves.
A lot of humans wind up as straightforward soldiers or in some capacity that serves the war, but not all! Some can channel the power of Yggdrasil as magic -- they're too useful not to involve in combat, but generally frowned upon as cheating the system. Deeds of magic don't count the way deeds of physical combat do for glory, and no one's sure if the use of magic by humans weakens Yggdrasil or not.
Vern, a magic user whose entire family dies over time due to this shitty system, is real bitter about it! Without anyone left to rein him in, he goes a bit crazy and decides to try and destroy the system in the most drastic, dramatic way possible. He discovers the lore of the sleeping World-Serpent and spends years looking for a way to wake it, kickstart Ragnarok and destroy Midgard, Yggdrasil, and all the connected realms.
He succeeds -- to his surprise -- but discovers that rather than being a mindless animal, the World-Serpent is sapient, intelligent, and very likeable. His genuine appreciation of Vern as a person and the world around them cracks Vern's focus and his own indifference towards the destruction they were wreaking. Not as planned! Eventually, this leads them to a crisis: do they go ahead and destroy the roots of Yggdrasil and die after all, or live for each others’ sakes and give the world another chance in the process?
They take the latter option, in the end...but on a trial basis.
There's a writeup here that goes into all this more in-depth, also!
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?
- Vern has little belief and a heaping helping of pessimism re: typical authority and moral structures in the first place. Removed from his canon situation, he doesn’t really want to hurt anyone, but he has no problem taking stuff -- he nicked food and similar items when he was on the run with his brother, and upgraded to carrying off books and artifacts from ruins and libraries when he was researching the end of the world. Thieving in itself isn’t new to him. What’s the fuss, anyway? Everyone will die eventually and then physical stuff won’t matter.
- He’ll be particularly happy to nick small shiny objects if the opportunity comes up, too, because he can take some of them home to his dragon boyfriend.
- He’s a shirty, prickly loner by nature and can be awkward and abrasive around people to start with. That’s something he’ll have to learn to work around since so all of phantom thieving is some degree of teamwork and interaction!
- He’s willing to do the work if he’s got a good reason to do it (like a wish!), though, so even if he’s like EHHH and huffy at strange partners he’ll pull his weight and keep people on task if he has to. It’s not actually hard to get him to start liking you and evidencing a sense of humor after a while, either -- just don’t call him on it! That’s rude.
- Vern doesn’t really come across as ambitious, but he’s the personality type who looked at a messy world and decided all of it could be solved at a stroke with an apocalypse, so, uh. With a sufficiently important wish to work toward, he’ll be very inclined to try to arrange larger, more elaborate heists to hit his personal goal faster.
- He’s also a nerd and great at interpretation of a loose theme, so if you’re stuck on ‘what do we steal though???’ he’ll always have suggestions.
- Bonus: he is a weak twiggy mage and would go for the powers more in his wheelhouse first, so for months he’ll be like ‘yeah I’m Muscle,’ and someone will be like ‘ok get this car out of the way then,’ and then he’ll just stare at them because he can’t lift.
- I can’t tell if all this will come together to make him a good or a bad phantom thief, but he’s certainly gonna be a thief who tries.
Specialization: Muscle!
Starter thief outfit: A scaled mask and a classic fantasy rogue outfit, kind of like this without the knives.
Powers: Most magic users in Vern's world are taught a generic set of earth/fire/water RPG-type offense spells, for everyday use and to protect themselves. These are not very powerful unless he drains himself completely to cast one.
Magic users may also have a specialty -- a particular type of magic they're attuned to, which comes to them with ease and is more flexible in their hands than usual. Vern's personal specialty is lightbringing: creating light, controlling and directing it, and making shiny pictures and images with it. This is largely nonoffensive, but it can be used to distract or blind people. The area he can use it in is restricted to his own line of sight.
Vern may also be able to summon and direct the residents of other worlds in the Norse cosmology (who are normally imperceptible to humans), but this will likely not come up! He has no need or desire to summon more than Geir.

Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?
Souji is a mix of good traits and bad when it comes to being a phantom thief. He is absolutely a pro at keeping a poker face, to the point where people seriously can't tell whether he's joking or being serious about the ridiculous things he says, and he's not afraid to play the part of seducer (or seductress); the things that embarrass most people, Souji will do with aplomb. As a wild card who's accustomed to taking on a role that's needed, support or offense, he'd also be a good fit on any team depending on what sort of role they're lacking.
But Souji might have a harder time with stealing things, or causing people problems who don't deserve it. He was caught up in trying to hunt down a murderer back home, and while he did have to act independently of the police, he wasn't trying to necessarily dodge them. He's a very big believer in working hard and finding out the truth of things, despite how painful or difficult that truth might be, and he's not that fond of being the criminal after everything he's fought for.
But if it's for a good cause and he can be convinced of that much, he'll gladly take on the role of a phantom thief and do it without further hesitation. Once he's sure of his course, Souji moves forward without faltering.
Specialization: Muscle!
Starter thief outfit: here!
Powers: Souji comes bringing with him the power of Persona, which is basically the ability to summon aspects of his soul that take the forms of mythical and legendary figures and allow him to fight with their powers. While he can hold up to twelve, he can only summon one Persona at a time, and using their spells and attacks will slowly drain him of SP/HP... which we can say translates to being drained of energy or causing strain on his body. Here is a handy-dandy list of the Personas he'll have on hand.
He's a little more durable as a Persona user, but physically-speaking, he can hit things with a two-handed sword (or a golf club) and has no real weapons training.

Character Name: Hizumi Mizushiro

Character Info: Here with a cw: suicide
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief? Hizumi is a highly talented individual - he’s a bonafide genius with a knack for quickly picking up anything he tries. He is incredibly intelligent, capable not only of learning high level materials, but also more active uses such as strategizing and creativity. He has athletic ability, able to outrun and outplay even a basketball team known for making it to nationals, with quick reflexes to boot. He even has a natural charm and charisma to him, understanding more or less how people work and react and using that knowledge to forge precisely the types of relationships that best suit his needs, whether that’s a simple friendship or something more businesslike. He’s pretty much a born performer, able to play all sorts of roles; from the the friendly unassuming class clown to something more sinister, he can swap between these “personalities” at the drop of a hat. As far as most tasks a phantom thief may need to tackle go, he’s well-equipped to handle most of them on his own.
On the other hand... because his talents originate from his fate as the Devil, he doesn’t really consider himself human. He firmly believes in his fate even if he despises it and finds it impossible to get close to anyone other than Ayumu. He doesn’t think it’s possible for anyone to understand him fully, yet arrogantly thinks he can see exactly what makes others tick. He holds his cards close to his chest, and though he may trust others to react in certain ways or be capable of certain duties, he never fully trusts anyone. Much of this is a result of his life being wrapped in secrecy; however, a good chunk of it is an attempt to mask how deep in despair he’s fallen. He knows that he’s doomed to a horrific death no matter what he tries, so focusing on surface level pleasures and connections is a great distraction from that, even if it means remaining emotionally distant from everyone around him. Unfortunately this also means his mental health is extremely fragile and, with the right combination of events, he’s liable to fall apart completely under the weight of his destiny. As far as thieving goes, this means he’s not going to be great at bonding with his fellow thieves closely, and may get overconfident in his skills only to be brought to heel when reality hits. Being perpetually on the verge of a breakdown is not precisely conducive to phantom thievery, either.
Specialization:
MuscleGRIFTER, SIGHSStarter thief outfit: Here!
Powers: Pseudo-immortality - Basically, things that absolutely should kill him do not. He can still be maimed and critically injured, but no matter the odds he’ll survive by a hair’s breadth (thanks to a miraculous gust of wind, or branches slowing his fall, etc.) and make a full recovery no matter how severe or scarring it should have been. Anything that should be an instant kill, such as a gun held to his head, will simply fail (the gun jams, for example). Divine luck itself seems to be on his side. The only one who can bypass this to kill him is Ayumu Narumi.

Character Info
Character Name: Therion
Canon: Octopath Traveler
Age: 22
Canon Point: Mid-chapter 3, after meeting Darius and defeating the first set of goons
Character Info: Therion @ Octopath Wiki
It's also worth noting that I'm taking Therion as the first party member, so he has seen everyone else's chapters up to his canon point. So he's seen everyone else's chapters 1 and 2, but not their chapter 3. This isn't really an important detail, but I figured I'd mention it for clarity!
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?
✔ Starting out with the obvious, Therion's a thief. He's said to be the very best! He's not just good at pickpocketing and lockpicking, he's also got charm and charisma, enabling him to get away with all sorts of things.
✔ Therion's also cunning and can formulate plans to get him into places he wants to go, along with tricking people to get their items.
✘ Therion is a lone wolf. He doesn't want to work with anyone else after being betrayed. He turns down help, even when it could be beneficial for him. This isn't because he doesn't want to share the spoils, but rather because of trust issues.
✔ Thankfully, he's capable of opening up and learning to trust again. He does recruit the other seven party members and helps them on their journeys even though he doesn't need to. He won't be pleased at the forced teamwork, but he'll get used to it.
✘ Distrust is a huge part of Therion's personality, and he's not likely to trust anyone right away. That includes Topaz. He'll constantly be on high alert here, and the unfamiliar surroundings aren't helping any.
✘ Therion holds everyone at arm's length, even when he does start to befriend them. He's worried about being betrayed again, so forming close bonds is going to be tough (at first).
✘ Working with people is going to be difficult too, especially with amateurs. He's used to working alone and being the best of the best. Being forced to partner up won't be fun (but will be great for character development).
✔ Even though he may have trouble with trusting others, Therion can get along well with people. He's pretty relaxed and easy to talk to, and he doesn't mind listening to people. Sure, it's part of how he gathers information, but he's personable and even charming sometimes.
✔ Despite how it seems like he doesn't care about anyone, Therion really does care a lot. He chooses to help Cordelia even when he doesn't have to anymore, and he's assisting the other party members on their separate quests. He has trouble turning a blind eye to the people directly in front of him when they're in need.
✘ That being said, he's no Robin Hood. He doesn't steal from the rich and give to the poor, he keeps it for himself. He's also capable of stealing from poor people in game, though this is never commented on. Basically, he's got no problems stealing from anyone. (Which is probably more of a positive trait here.)
✘ While he's not exactly rash, he is short-sighted, and gets himself into trouble because he doesn't think everything through. This led to him getting caught once, so maybe he'll be more cautious now.
✘ Therion is a proud man who hates failure, especially when it comes to theft. He won't be happy if he's caught.
Specialization: Thief! (of course)
Starter thief outfit: Outfit and mask!
Powers:
As a Thief, Therion's abilities revolve around debuffing enemies or stealing things like HP and SP (basically MP) or items. Not a lot of these work well in roleplay, so the ones I'll be focusing on involve setting an enemy on fire and lowering an enemy's offense or defense for a short amount of time. When fully powered up, he can use a lightning-fast dagger attack on all enemies. (The Break/Boost system doesn't work well in RP, so I'll be ignoring it and just say he needs to be in combat for awhile before he can use his special moves like Aeber's Reckoning.)
In Octopath Traveler, characters can take on a second job. Therion picks up different skills in the jobs he masters, but he can only use two jobs at a time. His secondary job is Dancer, which is a class built around buffing the party. In this class he can raise attack, elemental attack, defense, and speed. He can also deal dark damage and cause a mysterious effect to happen. (This varies wildly from dealing damage to the enemy to dealing damage to the party or even healing enemies - let me know if this is something he can keep and I can tell you more, I understand if you'd prefer to nerf it, however! I just want it for shenanigans, tbh.)
Therion can also use daggers and swords in his current classes, but he's capable of using other weapons in other classes. He's very versatile!
I tried to keep this section short, so if you need clarification on anything, please let me know! Here are the pages for Thief and Dancer for more details on Therion's abilities in these classes!

Character Name: Aglovale
Canon: Granblue Fantasy
Age: 32
Canon Point: Between Frost and Flame, Chapter 6; before meeting with Percival in the occupied village.
Character Info: The wiki is unfortunately one of those that tells you more about stats than it does the actual character; as such, in 500 words:
Aglovale's upbringing was a good one with loving parents and two younger brothers; their father was the ruler of their home country of Wales, while their mother was renowned for her charity and generosity in offering assistance to surrounding countries in times of need. He knew he was destined to rule Wales himself one day; he wanted to make it into a nation of universal kindness and prosperity.
This went well until Aglovale was about ten years old; on a trip back from a neighboring region with his brothers and their mother, their carriage was attacked by the same people they had just been trying to offer aid to. Their mother died right in front of them after visibly suffering for several minutes, and they all spent a bit too long locked in a carriage covered in blood and parts of Mom.
Aglovale changed after that; he became distant and strict, believing that humans were all inherently vile and needed a leader that would rule them absolutely to keep them in line. Over time, all three boys grew up and went their separate ways – one went abroad to study magecraft, and the youngest became a knight in a neighboring kingdom. Aglovale remained with his father, who began training him in earnest to take over for him; his father also – for some reason – decided it was a good idea to teach him how to summon demons. You know, as you do.
Aglovale doubled down on the whole demon thing following his father's death, and as he ascended to rule Wales he made a pact with a demon to open a portal to what is basically Granblue Hell in exchange for military conquest and power. The plan to do this almost succeeded, but his youngest brother finally decided to visit – because unfortunately, the plan also involved starting a lot of wars to get the hell portal activated, and everyone understandably wanted to know what the hell Aglovale thought he was doing. Aglovale responded to this query by...starting more wars, and then physically merging with a demonic entity to become really eldritchy and try to kill everyone. His brother beat the literal hell out of him, they both nearly died, Aglovale told him that part of the reason he did everything was because he was tired of being left to handle everything alone and the rest was because he wanted to try to resurrect their dead mom, and his brother basically agreed to not leave Aglovale alone for long periods of time because apparently this happens. Aglovale vowed to be a better person after that, he became calmer and more capable as a ruler, all went back to being well – and then he promptly summoned the demon again, this time so he could whack its head off to satisfy his own sense of pride.
...It's kind of a work in progress.
tl;dr: Local man gets the world's worst object lesson in humanitarian aid, becomes warmongering eldritch horror, gets better.
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief? We should probably not foresee this being excellent.
Granted, he won't be a complete travesty? In terms of physical capabilities, Aglovale is both strong and fast; he's also used to conflict and handling things going unexpectedly, and he's completely willing to pull out all the stops when things go wrong. He's also a very flashy person with a flair for the dramatic in his actions and his planning, and perhaps more importantly he's got the intelligence and charisma to back up what he's selling; he does run a country, after all, and he's got the support of his nation in literally everything he does, even when those things are questionable.
In theory, this sounds fine. Passable, even.
However, a lot of the problem with Aglovale is that there's a major difference between intelligence and cleverness, and he is not as clever as he thinks he is by half. His plans are pragmatic and logically sound but fail to take the human element into account, and as such they're easily undermined by people...generally being people and therefore unpredictable. He's outmaneuvered by, like, the least charismatic out of four zero-charisma people on at least two occasions. He occasionally experiences complete failure with regards to reading a room, leading to weird dissonance at best and failure to keep control of said room at worst; he's also honest to a fault and has difficulty lying to people – if directly and bluntly asked about something, he'll generally give an equally direct and blunt answer, whether he really should or not.
That said, he'll make the whole phantom thief thing work for him, simply because he has to – the thing he would wish for is the most important thing in the world to him, seeing as it deals with his family (whom he loves above all else and beyond all reason) and he's willing to do whatever he has to in order to obtain it. He's always been extremely all-or-nothing, and he generally goes above and beyond to get results. That said, he's ruthless and a bit more willing to be brutal than some might like; he'll kill if he has to, though he would quite prefer not to due to finding such actions to be graceless when done unnecessarily, and he definitely isn't opposed to doing things like taking a large number of people hostage and threatening to murder them all if he thinks he's losing. He's a bit of a poor loser like that.
So basically, this sounds acceptable on paper and God knows he's coming at this with a can-do attitude, but his flaws are egregious enough when put in context that he's probably going to have a bad time.
Specialization: Muscle, seeing as he likes combat and he'd be blatantly terrible at everything else and he knows it.
Starter thief outfit: We're going full stupid masquerade.
Powers: Aglovale is skilled in both physical and magical combat; his physically-based skills lie with a sword, but his magically-based skills are all water-aligned, specializing in ice. He has a few specific skills he uses, and some more generalized things that are canonically spelled-out.
Silberne Welt: Creates and drives up spikes of ice from the ground to do a large amount of ice/water damage to a single target, while also healing Aglovale's own injuries.
Schneetreiben: Boosts both his physical strength and the damage that can be done with his water/ice manipulation; lasts for about five minutes at most.
Zerreissen: Does a large amount of water/ice damage to a single target.
Eiszapfen: Creates ice shards and rains them down on all enemies; does moderate damage.
Coldcage: Freezes a target in place for up to three minutes. Can also be used on bodies of water in his immediate vicinity, and is effective whether the water is moving or not; he's coldcaged rivers before to freeze them over entirely. When used on water it lasts until either the ice breaks or melts – but the larger or more difficult the target, the more easily-broken the ice is. (A glass of water is going to remain frozen solid for a good long time, the rivers, just until the natural flow breaks the ice eventually.)
Generalized Whatnot: It should probably be noted that he explicitly conjures the water he works with – he doesn't need to draw from his surroundings or any natural bodies of water nearby, he can just create whatever he wants to use (within reason). He can also flash-freeze the water he creates to cause thick mist or fog over a limited area, and he can use this to deflect/dispel offensive magic being thrown at him if he's fast enough with it.

Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?
If Minako had to be an actual thief, she probably wouldn't be very good at it. Sneaking around isn't exactly her specialty, she's more of a (strategically, to be fair) jump headfirst into something kind of person. That said, she would make a great Grifter! She's a charming person by nature, friendly and personable, and has great leadership skills that tend to draw you in to her as a person. She'd be excellent at providing distractions and otherwise setting up the scene for others to sneak in and do the actual thieving bits. She's a quick thinker and extremely intelligent, and is, back home, trusted to make calls on strategies and plans both ahead of time and on the fly while they're on the field. As such, that's another reason she'd be great at being a Grifter — she can improvise and adapt in the situation depending on what's going on, and lead them down the best path for success. Minako also has the benefit of being a courageous person able to push through fear and indecision; she's the only one that's able to act when the train was about to crash during their first full moon mission, as everyone else was paralyzed with fear. If anything goes sour in a heist, you can trust on her to be able to keep a level head and figure out how to solve it, without being bogged down with worries and anxiety.
This is debatable as to whether it'd be a positive or negative in the thieving world, but she's also a very self sacrificial kind of person. If things go awry, she can and will put herself in the line of fire first so that others can get out unscathed. If caught by the authorities, she'd 100% take the credit alone and protect everyone else involved, as she is fiercely loyal and ain't no snitch, thank you very much. It's hard to say she isn't the type of person to give her all to those she cares about (and she comes to care very easily), considering she literally sacrificed herself for the sake of the entire world. Even if her wish upon arriving in Glymmer is to get to be able to see her friends again (without jeopardizing the world at large), self sacrifice is still something she'd do again and again, without question, and her decision isn't something she regrets.
One of Minako's defining character traits is her resilience against hardship — no matter how tough situations become and how terrible things are for her, she always finds it within herself to get back on her feet and push forward rather than letting herself be overcome with despair. You can't break her, and if she needs to, she'll go down fighting rather than be a passive observer in the situation. So, even if thieving gets rough, if bad things happen and she struggles, she'll keep moving forward and make sure she's a person that people can rely on, and come to for help in trying times.
Specialization: Grifter!
Starter thief outfit: BAM + back
Powers:
Minako is a Persona user, meaning that she summons a creature that is a facet of personality to fight for her in battle. She uses an Evoker in order to do so, a gun-shaped object that she shoots into her head. When her Persona is out, any damage onto it will also reflect onto her. Her Persona is essentially a corporeal being until it's dismissed, making keeping it out for too long at a time dangerous. Minako is also what's known as a wild-card, meaning she can summon multiple personas, up to about 12 on her at a time. here are some Personas. DO WE NEED TO NERF THE INSTA KILLS???? i probably wouldn't ever use them anyways tbh

Further, insta-kills will be nerfed inasmuch as they act like Bless and Curse skills in Persona 5. That is, they do HP damage, but don't instantly knock out the foe.

Character Name: Vanitas

Age: Physically 18, technically like, 5 existential-wise
Canon Point: Post-Encounter in Land of Departure
Character Info: link
Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?
Pros:
Vanitas is sneaky, a quick learner, and intelligent, qualities he's had to develop due to being underneath the tutelage of Master Xehanort. From easily knowing when to keep his mouth shut when he's prowling around (such as tailing the group in the LoD), or knowing which buttons to press in order to conjure certain reactions (see him going to threaten Ventus' friends to get him to go somewhere when he realizes no other tactic will work.) Obviously this is an excellent quality that'll work in thieving, because as a thief one would have to be able to trick others as well as be sneaky, which are things Vanitas is easily capable of being.
Vanitas has immense confidence in his abilities, and in an occupation such as thieving, a quality like this is necessary given that in order to help pull off a heist, some degree of confidence is helpful in being able to make it possible in the first place. There's no question he has faith in his ability to come on top of any type of situation that involves his own physical prowess, proven in his taunts and boasts to characters in-game time and time again.
Vanitas has incredible drive and willpower to the point where it might be his most valuable skill mentalwise. No matter the situation, if Vanitas has a goal, he will do everything in his power to see it through to the end. Exemplified in canon where he proves himself capable of fighting two battles simultaneously - one mentally and one on the outside, literally, without showing much strain until he's defeated in the final fight. It's a spectacular quality to have as a thief, given that it'll push him through most impossible-looking situations as giving up is not something he has in mind.
Cons:
Vanitas occasionally can lack patience when he hasn't received a result he's attempted to achieve, leaving him to be prematurely make impulsive decisions that go against the wishes of even those he's working with (see: Master Xehanort.) Not exactly the best aspect when there needs to be a lot of waiting around in a heist; he may decide to bruteforce his way through if he feels that sneaking around won't get him to the objective faster which might alert parties to his presence.
Most important of all, Vanitas is used to working alone, and is not entirely the type of person to embrace the spirit of teamwork unless his arm is twisted into it. His tendency to prefer doing things his own way may cause him to butt heads if he needs to go on a mission or otherwise with another person because he'd likely need to at least try to cooperative in order for things to be successful. He's also naturally inclined to be antagonistic and blunt to the point of obvious rudeness, which can make teamwork all the more harder, as well endanger the success of the heist.
Specialization: Hacker, because he'll want to see how this would pan out. Though might change to Thief later on.
Starter thief outfit: Ridiculously large red fluffy hat with a light feather in it, a long black trench coat, with a red loose fitting shirt, a red scarf, black belt around his waist, and black pants with black leather boots.
Powers: As a Keyblade wielder, Vanitas is able to use his keyblade to open/unlock items/places/hearts, should he wish it.
He's also able to channel darkness into his spells (and darkness itself) through his Keyblade, adding to their strength.
He can cast high level spells, mainly Dark Thundaga, Dark Blizzaga, and Dark Firaga.
Vanitas is inhumanly fast, able to teleport via usage of darkness, and his reaction time is inordinarily swift, allowing himself to counter after someone's struck him. He is incredibly durable and has a high pain tolerance, making him a difficult opponent to lay unconscious, even if he is capable of being defeated numerous times.
He can also use dark corridors as a way to teleport farther distances across the world itself, and even to places off-planet.
He can summon creatures called Unversed. They're based off of his emotions and he can summon an endless amount of them; however hurting them does cause Vanitas harm so that is the major drawback (i.e., if he summons a multitude of them and a myriad of them are defeated, he could fall unconscious from the strain and pain.)

Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?
The Good--
He's already got a history of thieving. He's got this. (He's totally not got this.)
According to his most devoted pursuer, Kaito (Kid) is said to have an IQ of 400. As if being a literal genius isn't enough, he also has the apparently natural - or learnt - skill of being able to mimic just about any voice, is able to disguise himself as anyone given the right materials/gear, and also picks up new skills incredibly quickly if his antics in canon are anything to go by. He's shown to have a licence for a motorbike, and seems familiar with driving cars. He also appears to have passing familiarity with aeroplane controls, weirdly enough.
Basically, it seems as though there's not much he can't learn to do, and I say this without trying to exaggerate.
As far as his personality goes, by default he's charismatic, loud, confident - the kind of person everyone knows about even if they don't know him personally. He's the type of person able to put forth incredible stage presence when he wants to, and to also fade into the background where necessary. While he's more of a showman than a traditional thief, the fact remains that despite flaunting himself in the spotlight, he's yet to be caught. He makes backup plans for his backup plans. Even when things go wrong and he flies by the seat of his pants, he's prepared.
Lastly, he's a skilled magician. This means he's got good grounding in how to capture gaze, how to misdirect attention. He can pick locks, escape simple bindings, and is more than familiar with how to set up a heist. He's got the instincts of a thief, even if he never planned to use his talents for thievery. He's even athletic/limber enough to perform crazy stunts and outrun all but the most dogged pursuers.
The Bad--
He can't ice-skate or play billiards without cheating to save his life. But apart from that...
He's got a tendency to become overconfident at times. He's the type to aim for higher stakes, a higher score, and with that risk comes the possibility he'll fall for it. He's emotional, he gets attached, he can't always separate his personal feelings from the work at hand. Oh, he tries to hide it, but he can't erase it. Kaito just cares too much.
He also puts others first before his own personal safety and prefers to trust first rather than suspect. This can be exploited against him in a high stakes environment and potentially screw him out of a prize. Threaten to harm someone innocent and Kaito would rather cut off his own arm than see that person suffer.
At a stretch, the fact that Kaito rigorously plans out various means for acquiring his target and escaping means that it's easy to take advantage of those selfsame plans. Consider it like a game of chess between two masters: if Kaito meets someone who can outwit him (or just...completely throw all his plans out the window), he's done for.
Specialization:
Hacker, because he doesn't see the need to 'specialise' in thievery or grifting when he's already got those locked down, and because punching people is so very unrefined. Might as well pick something that he isn't already familiar with.
Starter thief outfit:
Going to go the route less obvious here and say this style of waistcoat/shirt but in the same colours as his canon Kid outfit. I.e. White vest, white pants, blue shirt, red tie. His mask, if I'm allowed to have this, would look more like one of those futuristic visors rather than a traditional mask - without the futuristic functionality of course. Glows pretentiously but can be turned off. That's about all it can do for now unless he upgrades later.
If the above isn't allowed and I have to go with a traditional mask, then I'll find something suitable.
Powers:
He's got none, and that's really the scariest power of all.. The power of normalcy.
Samples:
They're not strictly canon...but if this is more about getting a feel for consistent voice or ability to write then sample 1 (PSL AU) and sample 2 (thread from his other game).

Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief? She's going to be middle of the road as far as thieving goes!
The first thing that makes her suited is her confidence. While she does feel self conscious and critical of herself at times, she keeps these doubts hidden fairly well around people she doesn't know well. This also means she has experience in putting on a front for other people; a few lines from a song written for her character "nobody sees, because you smile, and the world will never guess". She's friendly and outgoing, and finds it easy to interact and engage with others, which could prove helpful. She'd be skilled at keeping secrets or misleading people if need be.
She's also intelligent and creative. While she mostly applies this to artistic pursuits in canon (especially music), she can apply them to other situations that might need creative problem solving. While she isn't a genius, she's quick witted and adaptive enough to help find her way out of tricky situations. This extends beyond handling herself in social situations; she can decide on actions to take in risky situations, not just decide on what words to say.
While she's smart and creative, however, she's also prone to making decisions with her heart rather than her head depending on the circumstances. She isn't necessarily illogical or irrational, but logic can sometimes take a backseat to her own emotions in terms of how she reacts to other people and situations, especially those where the stakes run high or where she has a personal investment in the outcome. This can lead to her making choices that aren't exactly pragmatic, which could jeopardize the goal of a specific mission. In addition, while she can handle herself well in social situations, she also has a tendency to be naive. This could lead to her placing her faith and trust in someone that isn't necessarily trustworthy.
The thing that would be most detrimental to her performance is tied in to the self consciousness mentioned back in the first paragraph. While her wish is important enough to her to work for, she's going to be hesitant to involve herself in activities that involve outright theft or any violation of the law. She'd be concerned with being caught, and more importantly, whether those kind of activities are morally justified. She'd be much more likely to look for loopholes in any given mission to find a way to twist the description into something that doesn't involve any illegal activity. While she could be coerced into taking that kind of action, it definitely isn't her natural inclination or her first choice.
